5 Family Summer Activities at The Red Door Resort

Mille Lacs is home to one of the largest recreational and fishing lakes in Minnesota.  There are so many things to do near Mille Lacs in the Summer.   Families can keep it laid back and sit at the resort while the little ones swim and play or you may decide more adventure is in order and head to Rolling Hills Arabians and Farm Tours.  They offer trail rides by appointment and visitation to farm animals galore including Rabbits, Goats, Peacocks, Pot Belly Pigs, Deer and more.  Below are a few ideas if you just want to gather and socially distance at the resort during your Mille Lacs Vacation.  We hope you can find this helpful in your search for a memorable summer experience for you and your family.
  1. Take your boat out on Lake Mille Lacs to fish or just cruise. We also offer pontoon rental if you don’t have your own!
    • A launch pass is included with your stay at The Red Door Resort, so take the boat out to explore the fishing, water sports and other recreation available on Mille Lacs Lake. You can also pay a small fee to rent a slip in our harbor if you prefer to leave your boat in the water overnight.
  2. Play out on the lake on our water trampoline and lilypads, or if the lake isn’t your speed try the playground.
    • We currently have a water trampoline and two big lilypads out near our dock and swimming beach for your use! Our side of Mille Lacs Lake has the mud flats, which are fantastic for fishing and also make it ideal for swimming safely without any big drop offs.
  3. Grill and have a picnic outside your cabin!
    • Each of our cabins has a charcoal grill that is perfect for bringing your own burgers, brats and hot dogs to grill out. Or use our fish cleaning shack and then grill up your catch of the day!
  4. Make s’mores at our beautiful new campfire rings.
    • This season, we put in brand new fire rings outside each of our cabins. They’re the perfect spot to hang out after a long day of fishing and swimming and maybe even make a few s’mores!
  5. Enjoy a gorgeous sunrise or sunset!
    • Whether from a boat or dock, be sure to catch a gorgeous sunrise or sunset over Mille Lacs Lake. The vast horizon and colors can’t be beat!

Activities at Red Door

The Red Door Resort offers a number of activities at or near the resort. Our swimming beach has a sandy lake bottom that stretches out from shore. Activities available at the main resort include a playground, basketball, and gaga ball pit.

Mille Lacs Lake features a world renowned fishery and is also great for recreational use, including swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, wind surfing, kayaking and canoeing. Off the lake there are walking, hiking and snowmobiling opportunities; many of the trails wind through hundreds of acres of beautiful state land and are accessible year round. The area around the resort has a high concentration of sugar maples, which means that, in the fall, the area has some of the most vibrant colors in the state.

The resort is only minutes away from excellent hunting land, state parks, and golf courses. Further afield, you can access the Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Brainerd International Raceway, Paul Bunyan Land, Wealthwood Rod and Gun Club, and the Mille Lacs Indian Museum.
