Trails for Days

During the summer months, there are miles of ATV trails that weave through wooded areas, run along shorelines, and show adventurers the best of the area’s landscapes. However, once the snow starts to fly, snowmobile enthusiasts take the wheel and create a whole new experience. There are several snowmobile clubs, like the Mille Lacs Drift Skippers Snowmobile Club and the Mille Lacs Trails Snowmobile Club, in the Mille Lacs area that provide detailed trail maps and tips for adventures and keep the trails groomed all year. For snowmobiles, the trails are open – snow conditions permitting – for riding from December 1st to April 1st every year. You can easily head out as the sun is coming up and return home as the sun goes down without going down the same trail twice.

Mille LacsGreen or Seasoned, It’s a Blast for Everyone

Snowmobiling is one of those winter activities that just about anyone can do. Whether you are on a winter outing with the kids, adventuring with friends, or taking a solo trip, you will definitely enjoy riding the trails. If you have your own machine, you can purchase trail passes and set out with your own setup. Otherwise, there are several places around Mille Lacs where you can rent a machine and other additional gear like helmets. When you head out, set a route to get to Mille Lacs Kathio State Park and enjoy the amenities at the public Trail Center. They have a sledding hill for the youngsters or young-at-hearts, an outdoor stone fireplace, restrooms, and a heated building that is perfect for breaking for lunch or a quick snack. No matter what direction you choose to head, you will have an absolute blast.

Activities at Red Door

The Red Door Resort offers a number of activities at or near the resort. Our swimming beach has a sandy lake bottom that stretches out from shore. Activities available at the main resort include a playground, basketball, and gaga ball pit.

Mille Lacs Lake features a world renowned fishery and is also great for recreational use, including swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, wind surfing, kayaking and canoeing. Off the lake there are walking, hiking and snowmobiling opportunities; many of the trails wind through hundreds of acres of beautiful state land and are accessible year round. The area around the resort has a high concentration of sugar maples, which means that, in the fall, the area has some of the most vibrant colors in the state.

The resort is only minutes away from excellent hunting land, state parks, and golf courses. Further afield, you can access the Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Brainerd International Raceway, Paul Bunyan Land, Wealthwood Rod and Gun Club, and the Mille Lacs Indian Museum.
