The Top Five Reasons to Make The Red Door Resort Your Annual Summer Tradition

Well, we did it. We squeezed every last inch of fun, sun, and moments that matter out of summer. Raise your hand if you’re refreshed! Raise your hand if you’re inspired! Raise your hand if you’re grateful! The thing about this time of year is that it flies by faster than you reeled in those walleyes on Lake Mille Lacs–and boy was that fast, which makes it all seem that much sweeter. The memories made, the new adventures experienced, the gorgeous surroundings enjoyed… It’s why families love sunny, sandy summer getaways and why they also love The Red Door Resort. These Minnesota vacation traditions mean something to all who have made them their own, and so, while we’re happy it happened, we’re sad that it’s over. As we feel all the feels, it’s only appropriate to do a little send-off as we set sail on another amazing summer. An end-of-summer vacation recap, if you will, and with that, a top five list that will bring to life the one-of-a-kind Minnesota summer vacations that can only be savored at The Red Door Resort.

Today’s Top Five List:

Top Five Reasons Why You (and your neighbor, your co-worker, your garbage man) Should Make The Red Door Resort Your Annual Summer Tradition.

#5: Adventures and activities. There’s no shortage of fun to be had at The Red Door Resort. From nearby hiking, biking, and ATV trails and oh so much fishing (see below), to s’mores around the campfire and swimming off the dock, boredom is a word that doesn’t exist at one of the best family-friendly resorts in Minnesota. Even morning coffee comes with a show of the most gorgeous sunrises you’ll ever lay your eyes upon. And just when you think, “We need a break from the water, but want to stick around the resort, what should we do?” Boom! Consider it handled.

#4: Nature and beauty. You can’t have an idyllic family summer vacation without the sun twinkling between tree branches, birds chirping in your ears, bees buzzing around flowers, and the smell of a fresh lake breeze. When you reflect on your annual summer tradition of quality time spent with your favorite people, the warmth on your skin and the look on your kids’ faces as they chase that butterfly to the lake’s edge is what will stay with you long after the season fades. The Red Door Resort boasts this stunning natural scenery, beautifully framing your sun-soaked memories.

#3: Fishing and boating. On Lake Mille Lacs, the lake life game is strong. At The Red Door Resort, it’s next level. Rent one of the two new NorthStar pontoons, bring your boat, and unwind on the vast, glittering blue while casting your line, or schedule a day with Captain John Wersal, The Red Door Resort’s preferred fishing guide (and all-around great guy). Point being, you can’t get this memory-making experience at one of the best lake resorts in Minnesota and not wish you had just one more day on the dock or pontoon–and we can guarantee you will!

#2: Lodging accommodations and amenities. It’s one of the reasons why guests return to The Red Door Resort year after year. With all of the comforts and conveniences offered at the cabins and motels, you’ll feel like you’re at home, but with a best-Minnesota-family-resorts-set-upon-a-beautiful-lake twist. And this extends far outside The Stone House’s charming walls, the motel family suite’s spotless interiors, and the three-bedroom cabin’s full range of features. Need to relax? There’s a just-installed 14-person LÜTSAUNA sauna for that, a lakeside sauna, that is. And don’t forget the new heated outdoor pool. It’s got that new-pool sparkle and a “Welcome in.” There’s also an adventure-filled playground, Gaga ball pit, basketball court, and so much more right outside your front (red) door.

And the number one reason you (and your mailman, your favorite aunt, your dog groomer) should make The Red Door Resort your annual summer tradition… The experience! The Red Door Resort is so much more than a place to stay–it’s a setting for making long-lasting memories that matter. Time spent at this family fishing resort becomes part of your traditions and ultimately, your story, bringing you back time and again.

Activities at Red Door

The Red Door Resort offers a number of activities at or near the resort. Our swimming beach has a sandy lake bottom that stretches out from shore. Activities available at the main resort include a playground, basketball, and gaga ball pit.

Mille Lacs Lake features a world renowned fishery and is also great for recreational use, including swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, wind surfing, kayaking and canoeing. Off the lake there are walking, hiking and snowmobiling opportunities; many of the trails wind through hundreds of acres of beautiful state land and are accessible year round. The area around the resort has a high concentration of sugar maples, which means that, in the fall, the area has some of the most vibrant colors in the state.

The resort is only minutes away from excellent hunting land, state parks, and golf courses. Further afield, you can access the Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Brainerd International Raceway, Paul Bunyan Land, Wealthwood Rod and Gun Club, and the Mille Lacs Indian Museum.
