As it stands, The Red Door Resort has 7 full hookup RV lots on site near our cabins and motel with additional sites available through our sister property, Wealthwood RV park, just one mile down the road. However, we are happily in the process of adding additional RV lots to the resort to expand Lake Mille Lacs vacation access.

On the water and off, Lake Mille Lacs offers lots of opportunity for fun for all ages!

Time to Plan the Fun!

Now that you’ve decided on where you’ll stay, how you spend your vacation is up to you.

Of course, we do have some tips for making the most of your Lake Mille Lacs vacation.

First, we’re going on the water!

Bring your boat and head out for a day of adventure where you can fish, waterski or just enjoy the lull of the waves and the quiet of the lake. Concerned you’ll miss this part of vacation because you don’t have a boat to bring? Not to worry! We have pontoon boats available for rental.

Sticking to the shore…

When going out by boat doesn’t suit you, enjoy the water by casting your line from our docks or swimming out to our lily pad rafts. Shallow depths that extend a long distance out and a sandy bottom provide an enjoyable swimming experience.

A little further out from the water you’ll find a variety of family vacation activities: on-site playground for the littlest visitors, basketball court, cornhole boards and a Gaga ball pit.

Heading Off-Site

When you’re ready to explore outside the Resort grounds, there are several stops we’d recommend.

For outdoor recreation as well as historical interest, a visit to nearby Minnesota State Parks is a must. Mille Lacs Kathio State Park and Father Hennepin State Park are both just a half hour drive away along either side of Lake Mille Lacs. The parks offer miles of hiking trails, fishing, swimming, wildlife observation and more. Additionally, Mille Lacs Kathio State Park offers an Interpretive Center full of beautiful displays and educational materials showcasing 9000 years of human presence in the area. History buffs in your group will rejoice in learning more about the on-going archaeological studies at the site.

Soo Line State Trail offers 11 miles of scenic trail by foot or bike through beautiful scenes of farmland, wetlands and forests and is easily accessible from Father Hennepin State Park.

Unbound Adventures offers bike & kayak rentals as well as guided rides. Image credit: Unbound Adventures

Enjoy a river paddle! Aitkin Minnesota, in which we’re located, is home to two beautiful river paddle routes through the city: the Mississippi River Paddle Route and the Ripple River Kayak Route. While each route is unique, they both provide an enjoyable way to take in the area as well as opportunity for wildlife observation. Kayak rentals available

Head to new heights and awesome trails with guided mountain bike tours through Unbound Adventure. Always wanted to try mountain biking? Ashley and Andrew want to share the excitement of northern Minnesota with you.

Enjoy live music, markets and more at The Ripple Center.

Immerse yourself in local arts from live shows and open mics at Sampaguita to larger performances, choirs and markets at The Ripple Center.

Enjoy a movie at the historic Rialto Theatre. The Rialto Theatre was built in 1937 and continues to provide entertainment to the city of Aitkin. While some renovations have been made to this historic building such as adding the current movie screen and renovating the concessions stand, much of the theater harkens back to its 1937 opening including original murals in the auditorium. To enjoy a movie at the Rialto is to bask in cinematic history often long forgotten.

Lunch at Bay View Grill is a great choice for vacation dining.

Dinner out is always a fine option when you’re on vacation and you’ll find several wonderful local restaurants with delicious meals in the area. Whether you’re looking for a cafe with a hometown feel like Country Corner Cafe or a livelier spot like BayView Bar and Grill, you have options and we share 5 favorites here

Okay. You’ve chosen where to stay and you’ve marked down all the fun you want to have on your next Minnesota vacation. We’re sure it’s going to be full of the best kind of memories!
