Fish House Sites F.A.Q.

What can I catch ice fishing on the north end of Mille Lacs Lake?2026-08-26T16:25:14-05:00

Mille Lacs Ice anglers target walleye, jumbo perch, tullibee, and northern pike. Always check the current Minnesota DNR Mille Lacs Lake regulations before your trip — winter rules are updated annually.

Do fish house leases renew automatically? Can I lease for winter only?2026-08-26T16:24:40-05:00

Leases cover April 1 through March 31 and renew automatically for 12 months, so your site is yours year after year. Sites are generally not available for summer-only or winter-only rental, but we do offer winter-only fish house storage if you just need a place to keep your house off-season.

What are the fish house park rules?2026-08-26T16:21:24-05:00

The parks are family-friendly and quiet: quiet hours run 10:00 pm to 7:00 am, one fish house per lot, and one storage shed up to 120 square feet is allowed. Detachable decks up to 300 square feet are permitted (larger or elevated decks need approval and an Aitkin County permit). Electric heaters are prohibited, and leashed pets are welcome. The full park rules are provided with your lease.

Can I keep a boat at the resort in the summer?2026-08-26T16:20:20-05:00

Yes. Fish house members receive a season pass for the harbor launch and have first right to lease seasonal slips in the Red Door’s protected harbor ($650 for the 2026 open-water season) — so the same site that serves your winter fishing also anchors your summer fishing trips on Mille Lacs.

Are fish house sites available right now?2026-08-26T16:18:54-05:00

Availability changes throughout the year as lots turn over, and current members are prioritized for site selection. A limited number of lots are typically open across East Park, West Park, and the West Park Expansion each season. Contact the office for today’s availability, or ask to join the interest list for your preferred park.

Can I use my fish house site in the summer?2026-08-26T16:12:35-05:00

Yes — your lease covers the site year-round. Many members treat their fish house park lot like a seasonal campsite: it is a short walk or golf cart ride to the resort’s beach, heated pool, sauna, harbor, and playground, and member events run all summer. RVs and tent camping are not allowed in the fish house parks.

How does my fish house get on the lake in the winter?2026-08-26T16:10:50-05:00

Wheelhouse owners tow their own houses onto the lake using the North Mille Lacs Ice Fishing road system — road passes can be purchased directly from NMLIF. Skid house owners contract with NMLIF, whose team pulls your house from your lot or storage out to coordinates on the lake and back to shore at season’s end (included in the $250 pull fee).

Who operates the ice roads and on-lake services at the Red Door access?2026-08-26T16:09:37-05:00

Ice operations at The Red Door Resort access are independently owned and operated by North Mille Lacs Ice Fishing (NMLIF) — the only ice operation on the north end of Mille Lacs Lake. NMLIF plows and maintains miles of ice roads along the sand breaks, offers day and season passes, custom wheelhouse plowing, skid house pulls, and rental houses. Ice road access can be purchased directly from NMLIF with day and season pass options. For ice conditions, road access, and on-lake services, contact NMLIF directly at (218) 670-5012 or tightlines@nmlif.com.

All three welcome both wheelhouses and skid houses. Each is a quiet, wooded park with electric service — East Park has its own heated shower house, while West Park and the West Park Expansion share a shower house and playground.
