Access Continues to be Open to Walkout, Snowmobile, ATV and Side by Side Traffic
The Red Door Resort access will continue to be open to walk out snowmobile ATV side-by-side traffic for the weekend of January 13th. Members with seasonal sites at The Red Door Resort, individuals with season passes, and participants in the Zappa agency fishing tournament will be allowed to drive up to the 1/2 ton truck with a single axle wheelhouse onto the lake. No additional public vehicle traffic will be allowed out through the access this weekend.
29 of the resort’s 30 fish house rentals are on the lake this weekend and are fully booked (future weekend and mid-weeks stays are available!). The Ice Team has also done a great job of getting all of the private member skid houses onto the lake and set prior to the weekend.
The Red Door Ice Team has plowed roads on the first and second break lines and a trunk road out to the mud flats with access to Weimer, Bomback and Pantry flats. Ice conditions continue to improve and ice depth is generally 14″ or more. With all the snow on the lake, please be sure to remember bring extra blocking and put your house up a couple of blocks higher than you normally would just in case there’s flooding. It’s also a good idea to drill only one hole to start, and before banking, to see how much water if any comes up.
The bite has been good this winter and we are seeing a number of healthy walleye, and a number of perch, coming out of the lake. The fish house rentals, currently located on the sand breaks, have been doing well as have others fishing out of the Red Door access.
The Red Door ice roads are in good shape currently. With highs near freezing for the duration of the 10 day forecast, it is unlikely that a significant amount of additional ice will form in the near future. However, if the roads and access hold up well this weekend, the tentative plan is to open up to a limited number of private wheelhouses for the weekend of January 20th.
