Hardwater Fishing Out of the Red Door Resort

Mille Lacs Ice Report 2/17/2022

Access is Open to Full Traffic. Weather Anticipated to be Rough.

The Red Door Resort Roads are currently open to full traffic.  The access will not be preemptively closed tomorrow (Friday), but the weather may force an access closure or the restriction of traffic to the sand breaks.  Please call the office (218-678-3686) or check the resort’s Facebook Page for the latest updates.

The roads continue to be in good shape and provide excellent access to the north end mud flats. The most recent road map can be viewed in last week’s blog post (click here).  If you are able to arrive prior to noon on Friday or wait until Saturday morning, your experience is likely to be better.  All weekend rental customers will be escorted out to their houses.

Weather

Tomorrow (Friday) winds are going to be a force to be reckoned with.  The day is expected to start with sustained winds in the mid-teens with gusts up to 30 mph.  Then around noon the winds will shift to be out of the west or northwest.  The sustained wind will increase to be in excess of 25 mph and the wind will gust up to 45 mph.  Forecasts are simultaneously calling for 1-3 inches of snow.  If that precipitation transpires as predicted, white out conditions may persist for all of Friday and cause driveways to drift shut.

The wind will be significantly calmer during daylight hours on Saturday before picking up again in the evening.  Overnight on Saturday will see strong – up to 35 mph – wind gusts out of the south.  By daybreak on Sunday the wind should finally settle down and allow for calmer passage off the lake.

If you do come out this weekend, please come prepared with plenty of supplies to sit tight once a place is found to set down.  As long as it’s daylight and visibility is decent, the Ice Team will be on the lake to assist as necessary.  The Ice team will not be plowing slots, driveways or roads in white out conditions or after dark

Tullibee Tournament

The Red Door Resort is hosing a Tullibee Tournament on Saturday March 5th.  More information and a link to register can be found at tullibeetourney.com.  Walleye is closing on February 27th but Mille Lacs ice fishing opportunities will still be available.
