A Beautiful FISHING OPENER WEEKEND on Mille Lacs Lake
The weather was beautiful – especially compared to the snow last year – and it was busy 2021 Minnesota Fishing Opener weekend on the north side of Lake Mille Lacs. Water temperatures were reported in the low to mid-50’s. Fishing reports along the first break line in 10-16 feet of water and even the mud flats were mostly positive. The best bite was reported in the early morning and evenings with a slow down mid-day. Most walleye reports highlighted fish in the 16-20 inch range, but – as always on Mille Lacs – we saw photos and heard tails of large catches like Des’s 27 7/8ths inch walleye featured in this post. Anglers also reported on the fun related to catching a significant number of 20-22″ bass and some northern pike.
Remember that through Monday, May 31, 2021, anglers are allowed to keep one walleye between 21-23 inches or one fish longer than 28 inches. Though weekends are booked, The Red Door Resort currently has some mid-week availability for your stay. Come experience angling on the north shore of the big pond.
